On that day in 2010, a developer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history. He posted on a forum asking if anyone would buy him two pizzas in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoins.
At the time, 10,000 BTC was worth about $40. Somebody accepted the offer.
It was the first time Bitcoin was used to buy a real-world good.
Before that moment, Bitcoin was just magic internet money worth nothing. After that moment, it had a verified exchange rate: 5,000 BTC = 1 Pizza.
Today, those 10,000 coins are worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
