You often hear news about exchanges getting hacked, but the bitcoin security protocol itself has never been breached.
The Bitcoin network has been running 24/7 since 2009 with 99.98% uptime. It secures hundreds of billions of dollars. It is the biggest “honey pot” in the world for hackers. If someone could hack it, they would become a billionaire instantly.
Yet, nobody has ever managed to hack the protocol.
Why? Because of Proof of Work. To hack Bitcoin, you would need more computing power than all the supercomputers, military networks, and tech giants in the world combined. The cost to attack it is significantly higher than the reward you would get.
This economic shield makes bitcoin security effectively impenetrable. Your coins are mathematically safer on the blockchain than they are in a bank vault (which can be robbed) or under your mattress (which can burn).
